The Seed Hawk Concept - The opener
The fixed height bar with hydraulically controlled openers gives the ultimate in depth control.
Each opener assembly has its own press wheel for depth control and soil consolidation after sowing. The large trailing opener is pulled down into work by its own hydraulic ram creating up to 1200 psi which gives approximately 250 kg trip force and 180 kg packing pressure. The unique geometry and hydraulic trip system give a smooth break-back and controlled reset. Pressure is maintained on the opener by a constant oil flow of 15 litres/min from the tractor hydraulics. The amount of pressure on the openers can be adjusted from the tractor cab to suit conditions on the move.
With a constant oil flow and pressure in the hydraulic circuit, each opener’s working depth is controlled by a depth governing press wheel. As the press wheel travels over an undulating soil surface, the opener can lift and lower to maintain a consistent sowing depth.
Each opener has approximately 750mm of travel. The unique opener design has just two major pivot points which are fitted with hardened steel bushes and composite wear pads to minimise wear and lateral movement. The pair of parallel arms provide very good side to side strength.
